Tenkara Resources - Fixed Line Freaks (Facebook Group)

There are plenty of places online where tenkara anglers can connect, whether it’s to ask a question, share ideas or an experience, or just share a picture of one of their catches. Out of all the groups and forums, there is one Facebook group in particular that we wanted to share.

Fixed Line Freaks was started by JP (@tenkarapop) and Nick Feller (@norcaltenkara) as a group chat on Instagram early on, but has since grown and is now an active Facebook group. Among the shared posts you may find links to videos or articles that were created by members of the group, as well as fishing or tenkara related media that other members find interesting or inspiring. Of course, you will also find pictures of catches shared in the feed as well. This brings us to one of the reasons we love the Fixed Line Freaks.

The whole premise of the name is to suggest that it is a group centered around the appreciation of fixed-line fishing. In past articles we’ve published on this site, we mention that we write about tenkara in the “traditional” sense (fishing for trout in high-gradient streams), but we acknowledge that people use tenkara rods to chase species in settings that fall outside of those “traditional” boundaries. Scrolling through the feed in the Fixed LIne Freaks group on Facebook, you will find the normal trout photos, but you will also find a variety of other species caught on tenkara rods. From panfish such as crappie, bluegill and bass, to larger species like carp, buffalo (the fish), and gar - as well as an occasional saltwater fish, the group really lives up to the name.

For those who may be new to tenkara and looking for a good, fun, supportive community to help them along, Fixed Line Freaks is a great place to be. That also extends to those who may be looking to see how the limits of a tenkara rod are pushed, and the appreciation and celebration of the catch itself. While the group is set to “private” to avoid spam, it is a very welcoming group, and one that is worth checking out!
